Digital Humanism Fellowship at the IWM

The Institute for Human Sciences (IWM) in Vienna invites applications for its Digital Humanism Junior Visiting Fellowships for the 2026–2027 academic year.

Selected fellows spend three consecutive months at the IWM in Vienna between February and June 2027, pursuing their own research projects alongside the Senior Digital Humanism Visiting Fellow. The IWM provides office space, internet access, in-house research facilities and administrative services free of charge.

The call is open to all academic disciplines. Digital Humanism is understood as an approach that describes, analyses and influences the interplay between technology and humankind, striving for a better society with full respect for universal human rights. Note that the program is distinct from the Digital Humanities: projects that merely apply digital tools to humanities research will not be considered. Candidates are expected to work on the intersections of digitalisation with societal, economic and geopolitical questions.

Stipend: EUR 3,300 per month for postdocs, EUR 2,750 per month for candidates still pursuing their doctorate. All living and research costs are covered from the stipend.

Eligibility: Enrolment in a doctoral program, or a PhD obtained no earlier than 21 September 2022.

Required materials: letter of motivation, project description (max. 550 characters), project proposal (max. 7,500 characters), CV with list of publications, and two letters of recommendation submitted directly by the recommenders. All materials in English, combined into a single PDF.
