This colloquium is part of the IWM’s Digital Humanism Program and features Hans Akkermans, Professor Emeritus of Business Informatics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
Akkermans will explore innovation as a form of “technosociality” rather than a straightforward, linear process. Drawing on real-world case studies—from smart electricity grids and regreening efforts in Africa’s drylands to the rise of digital technologies as instruments of governance—he will highlight how innovation emerges through complex interactions between society and technology. The talk also touches on the possibilities and challenges of democratizing technological development.
The discussion will be moderated by IWM Permanent Fellow Ludger Hagedorn.
